I died on a Thursday—killed by a monster intent on stealing my soul. The good news? He didn’t get it.

The bad news? Turns out not even death will get you out of high school…

Covering up her own murder was one thing, but faking life is much harder than Kaylee Cavanaugh expected. After weeks spent “recovering,” she’s back in school, fighting to stay visible to the human world, struggling to fit in with her friends and planning time alone with her new reaper boyfriend.

But to earn her keep in the human world, Kaylee must reclaim stolen souls, and when her first assignment brings her face-to-face with an old foe, she knows the game has changed. Her immortal status won’t keep her safe. And this time Kaylee isn’t just gambling with her own life….

My Review:

BEFORE I WAKE is the perfect continuation to one special series in my heart. Vincent has put her fans through some extreme emotional roller coasters and BEFORE I WAKE is no exception. My heart couldn’t stop pounding with everything that happened! Sometimes it was a happy fluttering, and at others it was a rapid pounding in anticipation of some scary events. The plot twists were aplenty and fans of this series will be gratified with where Vincent takes us. I will be desperately awaiting the final novel in this epic series, WITH ALL MY SOUL.

Kaylee is my absolute favorite! She is the epitome of an average teenage girl, except for the whole banshee and *spoiler for those who haven’t read IF I DIE* being dead thing. *end spoiler* And yes she still has the same problems any other teenager might experience: guy conflicts, family difficulties, and struggles with who she is as a person and what everything means. I have the utmost respect for all of her decisions and I was so proud of all that she accomplished in BEFORE I WAKE. I wish I could give her a big hug after all that she has been through, but there is light at the end of the tunnel and she is getting closer to it!

Tod, Nash, Sabine, and Emma are exactly what Kaylee needs in friends (and for one of them, more than that). Along with Kaylee, they struggle with their own inner and outer conflicts. In a way, this series is just as much their story as it is hers. All of them play a major role in each others lives and I honestly don’t think they could survive without the support and love of each other. Vincent has done such an amazing job developing them and I can’t wait to find out how it all ends for them.

BEFORE I WAKE is a powerful addition to the Soul Screamers series that will leave fans eager for the final installment. I trust that Vincent will end this story in just the right way and I hope that all my favorite characters can finally have happiness without fear of it being taken away from them. You are going to love this one if you are a fan! Even if you haven’t read this series, I highly recommend that you do. You will find yourself so immersed in the story that you won’t be able to let go.
