I am the last stop on Gennifer Albin’s CREWEL tour, and I am so excited to be sharing an author interview with her. I adore CREWEL so much so this was really a treat for me! Enjoy. icon smile Crewel Blog Tour: Author Interview with Gennifer Albin

1. What was your favorite and least favorite part about writing Crewel?

Hands down my favorite thing to write is dialogue.  I love the banter and exploring how different characters react, especially scenes between Adelice and Cormac.  My least favorite part is exposition.  If it was up to me, there would probably hardly be any at all.  It’s so hard to avoid the dreaded info dump, but almost impossible when you’re setting up a whole different world.
2. What would you say the most unique aspect about Crewel is?
Probably the looms.  The concept of the Fates from mythology is certainly drawn on, but I wanted to take the phrase “the fabric of life” and explore that by twisting scientific concepts and then applying them to the traditionally female arts of weaving and needle work.
3. Out of all the characters, which one would you say was your favorite to write about?
I’m not gonna lie: Cormac.  I love all of my characters, but I just never knew what he was going to say next.  Cormac exists in such a grey area in the novel: is he good? is he bad?  And I can promise you, he only gets more complicated as the series goes by.  But he’s charming and ambitious, and I can’t seem to run out of tuxedo jokes.
4. What was your first immediate reaction upon seeing the GORGEOUS cover, on the computer and in person?
I was actually out shopping and I got the email on my phone, so it took forever to load! There were three initial concepts, but the first one in the email was the cover you guys know.   It sort of scrolled slowly across the screen and I thought “oh, pretty!” It was nothing like I was expecting.
When I received the final copy, I basically sat and stared at it in its shimmery glory for an hour.  The final version is beautiful!
5. A zombie apocalypse is coming and you have to choose one character from Crewel to help you survive it. Who would you choose and why?
Probably Jost, because he knows how to fish and I think the safest place in the event of a zombie apocalypse is on a well-stocked boat in the middle of the ocean.
Thanks for stopping by, Gennifer! It was a pleasure to have you. icon smile Crewel Blog Tour: Author Interview with Gennifer Albin

Crewel 200x300 Crewel Blog Tour: Author Interview with Gennifer AlbinAbout CREWEL:

Incapable. Awkward. Artless.

That’s what the other girls whisper behind her back. But sixteen year-old Adelice Lewys has a secret: she wants to fail.

Gifted with the ability to weave time with matter, she’s exactly what the Guild is looking for, and in the world of Arras, being chosen as a Spinster is everything a girl could want. It means privilege, eternal beauty, and being something other than a secretary. It also means the power to embroider the very fabric of life. But if controlling what people eat, where they live and how many children they have is the price of having it all, Adelice isn’t interested.

Not that her feelings matter, because she slipped and wove a moment at testing, and they’re coming for her—tonight.

Now she has one hour to eat her mom’s overcooked pot roast. One hour to listen to her sister’s academy gossip and laugh at her Dad’s stupid jokes. One hour to pretend everything’s okay. And one hour to escape.

Because once you become a Spinster, there’s no turning back.

Point number 2, the most unique aspect of Crewel, convinced me that I have to read this (yes, it was the word ‘scientific’ that did it. I’m a nerd)

  4. I love that this book relates back to mythology. Definitely a plus for me. I also really love the cover, so I can’t wait to give this one a read.
