1. What’s one thing you can reveal about PROMISED without giving too much away?

Let me first say thanks, Bailey for having me by! I can hardly believe this is my last stop on the Promised Blog Tour. It has flown by!
Promised brings the worlds of the first two books together for a nasty collision. After working on Prized, which depended more on battles of wills than violent conflicts, it was interesting to return to a place where the stakes were high in an overt, combustible sort of way. I liked letting things get horrible for Gaia.

2. Did you originally plan for BIRTHMARKED to be a trilogy when you sat down to write it?

No. I considered the first book a stand-alone until I learned Macmillan was offering me a three-book contract. Then it became a trilogy and I started thinking about the world with a wider scope.

3. For readers who haven’t yet read the trilogy, what would you say is the most unique thing about it?

I’d say it’s fairly unusual to have a sci fi story about a teen midwife.

4. The zombie apocalypse is coming and you have to choose one character to help you survive it! Who would you choose and why?

Norris. He’s this old, gnarly cook with one leg and a cleaver, and he’d take down a whole army of zombies, no problem.

5. What are other YA books that you would recommend to fans of the trilogy?

Lately, I’ve really enjoyed Unwind by Shusterman, Partials by Wells, and The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter. They’ve stayed with me for different reasons and they have characters who are strong in surprising ways.

Thanks again, Bailey for having me by! I hope you enjoy seeing how Gaia’s story wraps up.

Thank you for stopping by, Caragh! It was a pleasure to have you.

  1. This series sounds so so awesome! I love the concept of a teen midwife and scifi and it seems like there is a very interesting dynamic there in terms of gender politics and women’s rights as well:)

Thank you for the awesome reading recommendations:)

    Great interview:) Thank you:)

  2. Cordelia Fitzgerald says:

I’ve been wanting to read Birthmarked for the loooongest time, but my local library still doesn’t have it.
I’m so glad to hear that Caragh meant for it to be a stand-along book at first. I’ve found that books written as stand-alone that eventually end up with sequels are extremely well thought out and satisfying. I can’t wait to read all 3!
