Dying sucks– and high school senior Ember McWilliams knows firsthand. After a fatal car accident, her gifted little sister brought her back. Now anything Ember touches dies. And that, well, really blows.
Ember operates on a no-touch policy with all living things–including boys. When Hayden Cromwell shows up, quoting Oscar Wilde and claiming her curse is a gift, she thinks he’s a crazed cutie. But when he tells her he can help control it, she’s more than interested. There’s just one catch: Ember has to trust Hayden’s adopted father, a man she’s sure has sinister reasons for collecting children whose abilities even weird her out.
However, she’s willing to do anything to hold her sister’s hand again. And hell, she’d also like to be able to kiss Hayden. Who wouldn’t? But when Ember learns the accident that turned her into a freak may not have been an accident at all, she’s not sure who to trust. Someone wanted her dead, and the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she is to losing not only her heart, but her life. For real this time.
I am truly, madly, deeply in love with Jennifer. She never fails to grab my attention from the get-go and hold it even after I’ve finished the final sentence. CURSED is absolutely no exception. There were so many twists and turns that I think my head actually spun at one point. The characters are just as well-developed as the plot. Somehow by the end, I even ended up liking a character I hated outright in the beginning. If you are a fan of Jennifer’s, you will surely not be disappointed in CURSED.
Ember won me over immediately. She has such a fierce attitude that no one can ignore. The thing that really got me with Ember was her vulnerability underneath all the toughness. This girl goes through the toughest of tough times and how she still comes out standing in the end is beyond me. The whole touch of death thing got to me as well. I cannot imagine never being able to touch someone, especially someone I love, without hurting them. But Ember is a survivor and she will go on. I seriously cannot wait for more in her story!
It wouldn’t be a Jennifer Armentrout novel without at least one hot guy, and in CURSED that guy happens to be the irresistible Hayden. A mysterious bad boy who has had just as rough a time as Ember, I couldn’t help but fall for him right from the beginning. I relished all the moments that Ember got to see the real him. Oh, he’s just so scrumptious! Hayden will most definitely be added to my list of swoon-worthy guys!
The whole powers thing in CURSED absolutely fascinated me. I’m really hoping for more in the next book because with the complexity of it all, CURSED barely glanced the surface of all my questions. What goes on at The Facility? Why does Ember have this power? What’s going on with Ember’s mom? I’m hoping this and more will be revealed in book two! For now, I’ll happily be passing the time thinking of the yummy Hayden.
If you haven’t read any of Jennifer’s books, CURSED is a great way to introduce you to Jennifer’s writing! I adored everything about CURSED and I have zero complaints. Thanks for introducing me to yet another great story, Jennifer! Here’s to a wild ride alongside Ember and Hayden!
