Teen Publisher Extravaganza: Fierce Reads Tour Arizona Recap
On September 18th, four Macmillan authors landed in Arizona for the first stop on the Fierce Reads tour! I didn’t think I would originally make it because it was a school day and I’m 2 hours away at college, but thanks to my parents I was able to pull some strings to get me there for the exciting night! I am so happy that I found away to go because I had a great time AND I managed to snag a few signed books for a giveaway for my readers. Stay tuned for the end of the post for it.
Right when I arrived, I made sure to make a few book purchases. After all, you can’t have just one copy of a book. Changing Hands always does such a great job of setting up for the authors and making sure everything looks great! The table with the authors books proudly displayed was lovely and I wish I had taken a picture for everyone to see! Ah well. Next time.
As I was perusing the book table, I discovered that the nice girl next to it was Kate, a publicist at Macmillan. I have never met Kate before but it was so great to meet another awesome Macmillan person. I recently decided to pursue a career in the publishing industry so I was so pleased when she kindly answered my many questions about it! She was so warm and welcoming and a great representation of Macmillan and the publishing industry. I am even more excited to step into that world after talking to her.
And then it was time for the authors to come on “stage” and talk books with the book lovers of Arizona! Elizabeth Fama, Lish McBride, Ann Aguirre, and Marissa Meyer were all so cute! This was there first stop on the tour so we were a little warm up for them. I cannot tell you just how hilarious these four ladies are together. There were so many one-liners that had the crowd giggling! Here are just a few of them that I had to write down for others to see (I wish I had remembered to write down who said what on all of these):
“You can’t look anyone in the eye while eating a banana.”
“It’s not a love triangle! If anything it’s a love diagonal!” (Ann Aguirre on the Deuce, Fade, Stalker “relationship”)
“You can’t just write a fluffy bunny book–or can you…”
I got so much insight into the authors and their books just in this one night. For example, did you know Marissa Meyer is a HUGE Sailor Moon fan?! Or that Ann Aguirre is a bit of a celebrity among her sons friends? Lish McBride is just an all around great person who never failed to make me laugh with basically everything she said. Elizabeth Fama wrote Monstrous Beauty mostly because of her kids!
When it was time to sign, I assembled my large stack of books with the help of my mother (people were giving me funny looks, that’s how many books I had…) and got right in the loooong line. We Arizonans love our YAs! When I finally got to the front, I got to see the gorgeous Marissa Meyer again and she recognized me from ALA! How cool is that?! The authors were all so kind and Elizabeth Fama asked me to sign her little journal that she has all bloggers she meets sign. I thought that was so neat.
After that, it was time to head home, organize my books, and get ready to head back to college. I am glad that I took the time to attend the Fierce Reads tour stop in Arizona and hope they come again in the future.
I’m giving away a signed copy of Cinder by Marissa Meyer, a signed copy of Enclave by Ann Aguirre, and a signed ARC of Monstrous Beauty by Elizabeth Fama. You must be at least 13 years old and live in the U.S. to enter. Sorry international readers. Shipping is pricey. Just fill out the Rafflecopter form below to enter.
