The Midnight Dragonfly Series Blog Tour: Character Interview with Dylan
Today is the official release date for Fragile Illusions by Ellie James, the third installment in her Midnight Dragonfly series. I am so excited!! As part of the blog tour and to celebrate the release, I have a special interview with my favorite character in the series, Dylan. Thanks for stopping by, Dylan!
1. What is your best-kept secret?
Remember that day last fall, when Trinity came to my father’s house, and he discovered her hands gouged and bleeding? Remember how he called for me, asked me to get Mama Faye’s salve? Remember what Trinity felt when I touched her?
Sometimes things aren’t what they seem.
2. Who is your ideal girl?
You really have to ask?
If you have a tablet of stone, and you break it in half, it doesn’t matter where the halves end up, how far apart, or even what happens to them. They’re still two from one.
I could never be with someone who runs or hides, who lets fear hold them back. Courage and honesty, no matter how vulnerable they make you, are the two traits I value most.
3. What kind of future do you see yourself in?
I think about that word sometimes, the future, and it seems like a story we’ve yet to write. Yet to live. But here’s what I know. Life has to unfold at its own pace. You can’t force it. If you do, like a dragonfly of blown glass, it simply shatters. Each moment starts with now, and if you take care of now, the future will fall into place. And…you do know what I’ve been doing with my nows, right?
4. What is the funniest thing that ever happened to you?
Author note: Dylan and funny don’t exactly go hand in hand…dead mom, alcoholic father, shattered childhood, Katrina…)getting an answer here took some real hoodoo voodoo…and even then all I could get out of him was this…)
You mean besides the time Trinity woke up in that hotel room, but thought she was still dreaming? There, um, might have been this Mardi Gras when a few of us decided to dress up as vampires…you know, Anne Rice, Lestat, and all that…and we might have gone over to Lafayette cemetery at dusk, and there might have been a group of women from New York wandering through the crypts…and we, um, might have, um, kinda startled them…. There might have been some running and screaming, cops, handcuffs, and my dad, he might not have been that happy….
5. What does it mean to be psychic?
It means being in touch. It means paying attention, not only to the world around you, but the world inside you. Not only the world you can see, but the world you can’t see. Scientists like facts. They want to understand. But that’s like putting on a blindfold. Sometimes you have to let go and see where the Universe takes you.
6. Describe Trinity in a sentence or two.
Stronger than she knows, braver than she realizes, more powerful than she’s discovered, loved more deeply than she can imagine.
Glimpses. That’s all they are. Shadowy premonitions flickering through sixteen year old psychic Trinity Monsour’s dreams. Some terrify: a girl screaming, a knife lifting, a body in the grass. But others–the dark, tortured eyes and the shattering kiss, the promise of forever–whisper to her soul. They come without warning. They come without detail. But they always mean the same thing: The clock is ticking, and only Trinity can stop it. Find out how in Shattered Dreams, Broken Illusions, and Fragile Darkness, available from Griffin Teen!
Most people who know Ellie think she’s your nice, average wife and mom of two little kids. They see someone who does all that normal stuff, like grocery shopping, going to soccer games, and somehow always forgetting to get the house cleaned and laundry done. What they don’t know is that more often than not, this LSU J-School alum is somewhere far, far away, deeply embroiled in solving a riddle or puzzle or crime, testing the limits of possibility, exploring the unexplained, and holding her breath while two people fall in love. Regardless of which world Ellie’s in, she loves rain and wind and thunder and lightning; the first warm kiss of spring and the first cool whisper of fall; family, friends, and animals; dreams and happy endings; Lost and Fringe; Arcade Fire and Dave Matthews, and last but not least…warm gooey chocolate chip cookies. Her next book, FRAGILE DARKNESS, is available from Griffin Teen November 27, 2012.
