Synopsis:

Fia was born with flawless instincts. Her first impulse, her gut feeling, is always exactly right. Her sister, Annie, is blind to the world around her—except when her mind is gripped by strange visions of the future.

Trapped in a school that uses girls with extraordinary powers as tools for corporate espionage, Annie and Fia are forced to choose over and over between using their abilities in twisted, unthinkable ways… or risking each other’s lives by refusing to obey.

In a stunning departure from her New York Times bestselling Paranormalcy trilogy, Kiersten White delivers a slick, edgy, heartstoppingly intense psychological thriller about two sisters determined to protect each other—no matter the cost.

My Review:

MIND GAMES is one of the most exciting books that I’ve had the pleasure of reading this year. It’s an action-packed emotional read that left me dying for more in this world. While the book is a bit short, that does not mean it’s lacking in plot or character development. No, that just means that readers will have to appreciate all the time they can get with characters they will grow to love and hate, as well as be left craving more answers to one twisted ride that White has Fia and Annie on.

Fia has become one of my new favorite heroines. She’s vulnerable but also tough-as-nails and sassy as all-get-out. There are so many different layers to Fia’s personality, and I feel like we’ve just barely gleaned Fia’s full potential. This girl has a major attitude, and I kind of loved it. My heart went out to her for the experiences that the school/Keane put her through, but her desire to protect her sister at all costs combined with her raging anger leaves no room for the reader to pity her. I’m not sure Fia would be okay with that, anyway. icon wink Dark Days Review: Mind Games by Kiersten White I am excited to see what the future holds for Fia, and I hope she will get the redemption she needs to become whole again. She deserves a happy ending, no matter what she herself may think.

While I wasn’t a huge fan of Annie in the beginning, she did grow on me. Her role in everything is essential to Fia’s development. Annie doesn’t have any of the anger that her sister has, yet her sorrow and guilt overwhelms her just as much. She is the older sister, yet her blindness and vulnerability make it so that Fia has to play older sister and sacrifice everything for her. Annie and Fia’s strong sisterly bond is evident in all that they do for each other. It’s touching and heart-breaking at the same time. In a way, they are what will lead to the other’s destruction.

It seems as though everyone in the book is broken in some way. There is no room for laughing or joking around. MIND GAMES will break your heart into pieces, and somehow readers will learn to put them back together again after they finish reading. MIND GAMES is depressing yet so phenomenally well-done. It takes a special book to make you love such an almost irredeemable character like Fia. She’s dark, gritty, and hardened, much like the book itself is. Throughout the entire novel though, I felt like there was an underlying layer of hope. All is not lost, no matter how dark it may seem.

You’re basically going to be shocked at how dark this book is if you are a fan of Kiersten White’s, but also love her to pieces for MIND GAMES. If you haven’t read anything of Kiersten’s, MIND GAMES is as good a book as any to start with! I am giddy at all the possibilities there are for her to take the series after book one. More, please. icon smile Dark Days Review: Mind Games by Kiersten White

I didn’t know if I’d like it but your review really got me hooked in it! I love how it’s action packed but the characters are deep, with issues, and have to grow.

It seems to be a very meaningful story:)

    Lovely review!!

    Thank you:)

  2. I’m glad that you loved this book. I was really put off by the back and forth of POV and timeline. I wanted to like it more, but just didn’t. I did like how it ended though, so I am interested in where it’s going to go.

Ahh, emotional read? I’m in! I’m just in the mood for something like this :D

  4. I LOVE emotional books and broken characters. I think it’s really interesting to see how different people react to stress and pain and how they get through it. I can already tell I’m going to love Fia. I’m also interested to see how White pulls everything off with such a short length (not that I’m complaining).

  5. I’m really excited to read this book after reading your review. I don’t think I’ve ever read something like it, but i would really love to! :D

  6. Thanks for the review! I’m new to this author, and I spotted this new release a few weeks ago. It got added to my TBR list then, but now I’m sure going to squeeze this in to read sooner rather than later. :-)
