When Miki Jones is pulled from her life, pulled through time and space into some kind of game—her carefully controlled life spirals into chaos. In the game, she and a team of other teens are sent on missions to eliminate the Drau, terrifying and beautiful alien creatures. There are no practice runs, no training, and no way out. Miki has only the guidance of secretive but maddeningly attractive team leader Jackson Tate, who says the game isn’t really a game, that what Miki and her new teammates do now determines their survival, and the survival of every other person on this planet. She laughs. He doesn’t. And then the game takes a deadly and terrifying turn.

My Review:

RUSH is a thrilling sci-fi YA that is sure to get your mind spinning. Silver introduces readers to a world unlike any other in which aliens are a hidden threat to humanity. Miki doesn’t have a clue what she’s in for the second she chooses to save a girl from getting run over. Her “death” introduces her to a secret world unlike any other where other teens like her fight against the terrifying race of the Drau in a video game like simulation of terror. Silver’s intriguing storyline along with a likable and complex cast of characters makes for one heck of a wild ride in RUSH.

Miki is a stand-up heroine who is sure to get readers on her side from page one. Life has given her more than her fair share of hurdles in life, and it takes everything in her to keep on keeping on. Her introduction to the terrifying world of the Drau in the game is a blessing in disguise. She begins to actually live again and care about what happens to her and those close to her. She doesn’t want to die, nor does she want those in her same situation to. It helps that the brooding and gorgeous Jackson Tate is on her side and hellbent on protecting her, no matter the cost to himself. Miki’s story is compelling and full of shocking revelations that will have the reader turning the pages as fast as they can.

The plotting in RUSH is unpredictable and extremely well thought out. I was in awe of “The Game” and curious as to what it was exactly and why Miki and her group of friends were involved in such a thing. The video game aspects made things much more easier to comprehend. The mystery behind Jackson and his motives made me nervous yet excited at the same time. He’s such an enigma that I wasn’t sure what to expect with his back story. I’m hoping for much more of Jackson and the whole truth behind the Drau in the coming books. I’m sure Silver has a lot more in store for readers. I don’t know whether to be happy or scared about that part!

RUSH has me clamoring for much more sci-fi in my life! I absolutely adore the world that Silver has created, and I need more right now. Oh, and can someone send me a slice of Jackson ASAP? He’s too yummy to pass up.

  1. You are making me so glad I got this at BEA! I’ve been curious about it for a while (I love aliens, especially in YA), so this totally sounds like my kind of book.

    Awesome review, Bailey!

  2. I really enjoyed this one! While I did have some quibbles (questions, some worldbuilding), overall, it was a wild ride! Nothing like reading a book that sweeps you along in the action, huh?
